What Happens at a DUI Administrative License Suspension Hearings

If you are arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in Georgia it is important to remember to act quickly. You will only have 30 days from the date of your DUI arrest to file an appeal of the Administrative License Suspension that will suspend your ability to drive. You may also elect to install an ignition interlock device on your automobile to avoid a suspension.

However, if you fail to act, your license will be suspended, and if you refused to submit to the state-administered test of your breath, blood, or urine, the suspension lasts for 12 months. The 12 month suspension is considered a hard suspension, which means that you will not be able to receive a restricted license or permit to drive.

The decision to file an administrative license suspension appeal or install an ignition interlock is not an easy one and should be made once you have consulted with an attorney. The earlier you consult with an attorney, the sooner this important decision can be made.
